See bottom of page for details

Before buying bedbug poison, it is useful to carefully study the available range and features of drugs in order to be able to choose the best remedy for your situation.

The term "poison" in most cases, in the old fashioned way, means powdered products such as dusts or special crayons that are used to treat the corners and baseboards of rooms in order to destroy parasitic insects or pests. However, bedbug poison is almost never powder or fine - preparations in this form are usually harmless to bedbugs, which physically cannot eat them and get poisoned.

Poison in the form of dust or insecticidal chalk in most cases will not have a pronounced effect on bedbugs

The fact is that bed bugs are obligate bloodsuckers, unable to feed on anything other than the blood of mammals. This means that an effective poison from them is a remedy that either enters the lungs of the parasite with inhaled air, or is able to penetrate the hard chitinous covers of its body. It is these drugs that are used today to kill bedbugs, and it is from them that you should choose which bedbug poison to buy in a particular situation.

On a note

Poisons for the destruction of bedbugs are mostly deadly for insects, but do not have a toxic effect on humans (or this effect is minimal). As a rule, these are preparations based on nerve paralytic insecticides: mammals usually have protective systems in the body that allow them to neutralize the active components of such agents.

There are also bedbug remedies that cannot be called typical poisons - they mainly cause chemical damage to the insect, and in large quantities (relative to the size of the bug itself, of course) cause its death. Such products are also dangerous for humans - they can burn the respiratory tract, the mucous membrane of the eyes or the skin of the hands. When choosing poison from bedbugs, you should consider what type a particular remedy belongs to.

Means that are effective as a poison against bedbugs can often be dangerous for humans.

All types of bed bugs

A huge variety of remedies for bedbugs can be divided into several groups:

  1. Bedbug spray concentrates, which are concentrated solutions of insecticidal preparations with the addition of excipients (that is, the concentrate must be diluted with water before use). They are sold in different volumes, depending on the purpose. Spray concentrates targeted at the home user are usually sold in 50 or 100 ml bottles, and if properly diluted, this amount should be enough to treat one apartment. Most often, it is these concentrates that are used by professional exterminators and are sold in plastic cans for this audience. Great care must be taken when using them.
    Insecticide Cucaracha
Sinuzan concentrate is often used when pickling bedbugs by professional exterminators
  2. Aerosols are ready-made and diluted products in the required concentration, sold in cylinders and ready for use. Aerosol preparations are most convenient for home use, but in practice they lose a little in efficiency to sprays.Aerosols against bedbugs are more convenient than sprays because they are ready for use

    On a note

When using aerosol cans, it must be taken into account that the particle size of the aerosol cloud is usually much smaller than when using a household spray bottle. Therefore, there is a higher risk of inhaling poison yourself, as a result of which it is imperative to use a respirator when working.

  3. And, finally, folk remedies for bedbugs - kerosene, vinegar, denatured alcohol, turpentine. These substances are capable of destroying bedbugs only when they are directly hit, which is why they generally have very low effectiveness in combating parasites in an apartment. These folk remedies have a strong smell, are quite dangerous to use, but are very inexpensive and widely available.Folk remedies for bedbugs like turpentine will be more likely to poison you than insects

Not every drug from these groups will be effective in a particular case. Among populations of bugs, there are those that have time to develop resistance to a particular insecticide, and therefore it is not always possible to buy poison from bugs, which will absolutely destroy them. However, by choosing the most reliable and proven means, you can minimize the likelihood of failure in the fight against bedbugs.

Aerosols from bedbugs: simplicity, availability, safety

It is easiest to buy a bedbug remedy from this group: aerosols are sold in hardware stores, pharmacies and markets. The following drugs have proven themselves best:

  • Raptor from crawling insects (Turkey) with the smell of mint - contains three powerful insecticides (cypermethrin, tetramethrin, piperonyl butoxide), which virtually eliminates the likelihood of developing resistance in parasites to it. The price of a 350 ml bottle is about 100 rubles, the volume of the bottle is enough to treat a room with an area of 50-60 m².Aerosol Raptor from crawling insects
  • Kombat (Korea), also available with flavors. This bedbug poison costs more than the Raptor - about 200 rubles per cylinder, and is approximately the same in terms of efficiency.Aerosol Kombat Superspray can also be effective in the fight against bedbugs if there are not very many of them in the apartment.
  • Chisty Dom is an aerosol against bedbugs based on cypermethrin and tetramethrin. In general, we can say that this is a universal drug that allows you to destroy bedbugs, cockroaches, fleas and other insects in the house.Aerosol Clean House is effective not only against bedbugs, but also against other parasites
  • Dichlorvos-Neo, which has nothing to do with the old Dichlorvos and contains Permethrin at its core. Effective and inexpensive - you can buy this remedy for bedbugs for about 60 rubles.Modern aerosol Dichlorvos Neo

And further: Where the hell did the bugs come from in the apartment and what to do in such a situation

It is reasonable to use aerosols for self-treatment of residential premises. To do this, all surfaces in the room are sprayed with the agent, most abundantly - baseboards, floors under furniture and beds, all upholstered furniture, wardrobes.

Using an aerosol as a poison from bedbugs, you need to process all the places of the alleged accumulation of insects

Before processing, all people and animals must be removed from the premises. After spraying poison, close windows and doors for several hours, and then ventilate the room and carry out wet cleaning in it.

Important!

For the most part, aerosol preparations do not destroy bedbug eggs. This means that in a month or two adult bugs will begin to appear in the room again - a new generation appears from the eggs that survived during the processing. Therefore, when using aerosols, you need to be prepared for a double treatment of the room.

Spray concentrates: we work professionally

Concentrated insecticidal preparations for dilution and subsequent spraying in the form of a spray are often used by professional exterminators (this is effective and economical).

Exterminators usually use concentrates for dilution and spraying in the form of a spray.

As a rule, their use is accompanied by a bad smell in the room and requires the mandatory use of personal protective equipment.

Many of these bedbug poisons are used exclusively by employees of special insect control services, and it can be very problematic to buy such drugs for free sale.

So, the following means are most often used to destroy bedbugs:

  • Klopoveron is a Soviet development, considered one of the most effective. It is extremely difficult to buy it, for a person it is practically harmless, but it destroys bedbugs reliably. It is sold in the form of a powder, which must be dissolved in water. 250 grams of it cost about 1800 rubles.Clopoveron powder requires dilution with water
  • Tetrix is another drug used almost exclusively by professional exterminators. It has a strong unpleasant odor, is available in cans and bottles, requires dilution with water.Effective but difficult to work with. The drug Tetrix from bedbugs has a strong unpleasant odor
  • Sinuzan - has an original composition, but in application and in its properties is similar to Tetrix. Smells even stronger.Bed bug concentrate Sinuzan
  • Executioner - a remedy for bedbugs for domestic use. Developed in Germany, it is relatively inexpensive (70 rubles - 1 small bottle, about 20 bottles are required for a standard apartment). Safe to use, no strong suffocating odor (medium odor) and really effective.Bed bug remedy Executioner has some smell, but effectively poisons bed bugs
  • Bedbug Remedy Get (Get) - a preparation containing a microencapsulated suspension of insecticide, which retains its effectiveness until the agent is washed off the surface. It has a contact action, destroys bedbugs that simply run over the treated surface. Virtually odorless.Get microencapsulated suspension is one of the most popular and effective bed bug poisons.
  • Delta-Zone (about 500 rubles per 50 ml) and Lambda-Zone (600 rubles per 50 ml) are analogues of Get, also produced using microencapsulation technology. One bottle of each drug is enough to treat a room of 100 m².Insect repellent Delta-Zone
  • Karbofos is a well-known drug that has conflicting reviews and can cause side effects in processors. Inexpensive and known for killing both adult bed bugs and their eggs. It is produced both in the form of a powder and in the form of a concentrated solution, it has an unpleasant odor. The good old Karbofos is sold both in the form of a powder and in the form of a concentrate

And further: The Get Express tool really killed all the bugs quickly - after 42 minutes only corpses were lying around

Before use, these drugs must be diluted in the concentration indicated in the instructions and sprayed with a household spray bottle.

Folk poisons from bedbugs

Of the folk remedies for bedbugs, kerosene, turpentine, vinegar, and denatured alcohol can be effective. They poison insects upon direct contact with them (rather, they do not even poison, but burn and suffocate).

Folk remedies usually poison bedbugs only when they hit them directly.

However, in practice, these remedies for bedbugs are ineffective - it is physically impossible to treat all insects with them, and therefore some of the parasites will probably remain alive. At the same time, such products have an unpleasant odor, and after using them in the apartment itself, the risk of a fire increases (kerosene, turpentine and alcohol are highly flammable liquids and produce explosive vapors).

Using kerosene as a bed bug poison can be quite unsafe.

Means such as decoctions of wormwood and tansy are also poisonous to bedbugs, but in real conditions they can only be used to scare them away and protect the premises from the penetration of parasites.

How to choose poison for a particular situation?

When choosing poison for bedbugs, you should be guided by several main considerations.

If there are few bedbugs in the room, and you roughly know the places of their possible deployment, then it is advisable to try to limit yourself to using an aerosol preparation. However, one must be prepared for two stages of parasite elimination, re-treatment after about 2-4 weeks (to kill young larvae that hatch from surviving eggs).

With a large number of bedbugs in the room, it is advisable to use sprays. Of these, one should prefer effective products without a strong odor, oriented for domestic use (preparations Get, Dobrokhim Micro, etc.)

If there are a lot of bedbugs in the room, it is preferable to poison them with sprays.

And only where it is absolutely impossible to buy special sprays and aerosols (say, areas remote from large cities), you can fight bedbugs with the help of folk remedies. But here you need to be prepared for multiple treatments, bad smell in the room and possible failures.

On a note

Together with bedbug poison, special traps and Velcro can be used (there is also the so-called bedbug glue). They work especially well when the bed bugs' pathways in the room are known and the parasites don't live in the bed. It will not work to completely remove bedbugs in this way, but they will give a certain result.

And, finally, if you don’t want to bother with bedbug poisons yourself, you can always call the pest control service. There are a lot of such companies in big cities, and in small cities SES copes well with this task.

The call of professionals will cost from 1200 rubles for a one-room apartment, which is comparable to the cost of funds for self-treatment of the same premises. In most cases, you will also receive a guarantee that the apartment will be free of insects for a certain period of time.
