bed bug

For bed bugs, upholstered furniture is a favorite habitat. And not at all because it is dark and warm there - for them, these criteria for choosing a home are secondary. Yes, and "sofa bug" - the name is more popular than scientific and professional. All bugs that feed on blood and live in a person’s dwelling belong to the same species and are called bed bugs, and already popular rumor gives them the names “sofa”, “home” and others.

First of all, upholstered furniture attracts bedbugs because in it insects are closest to the source of nutrition - a sleeping person. Consequently, they need to move around the premises less and risk being noticed. In addition, between parts of sofas, especially old and very sophisticated ones, there are many tight joints that are ideal shelters for insects: bedbugs feel most confident where they come into contact with two surfaces and the back and abdomen. In other words, where it is crowded, they are most comfortable.

And of course, in sofas and beds, bedbugs are the warmest, as these items store the warmth of a person. Not every insect can afford such a luxury.Removing bedbugs from the sofa is often a serious problem: these parasites are sometimes very resistant to chemicals and adverse environmental conditions.

Methods for removing bedbugs: sofa specificity

Removing bedbugs from the sofa has its own characteristics compared to removing insects from the apartment in general.

First of all, you need to make sure that the bugs live only in the sofa, and in other places of the apartment they are not. Usually this happens quite rarely: parasites can hide behind baseboards, in the crevices of cabinets, under and behind carpets, even in larger quantities than in a sofa, but the owners of the apartment find them only on the bed and under it.

If a really thorough check of possible hiding places did not reveal the presence of bedbugs, it makes sense to treat only the sofa.

Ways to remove bedbugs from the sofa are few:

  • mechanical destruction, or simple collection of insects by hand. Extremely inefficient, unpleasant and lengthy process. But also the cheapest.
  • temperature treatment of the sofa. The best way, because the sofa is mobile. Bedbugs and their eggs die within a day at temperatures below minus 18°C and die almost instantly at temperatures above 50°C. Therefore, the sofa can either be taken out for a couple of days outside in winter, or treated with heat using special tools or services. Scalding the sofa with boiling water is effective, but after that the sofa needs a lot of time to dry.
  • processing the sofa with chemicals. There are a lot of such funds on the market, but before treating the sofa from bedbugs, it is necessary to hold special events in the apartment itself. Some products can be toxic and dangerous to both people and pets. Therefore, before using them, it is recommended to plan a short-term evacuation of all residents of the room, and then process the sofa in accordance with the instructions. The main means for today are Dichlorvos, Karbofos, Executioner, Perfos, Raptor, Raid, Kombat.

And one more thing: the bugs hid in all the cracks, and you just can’t find their nest? And smoke bombs find bedbugs where even a needle cannot squeeze through ...

Sofa steam treatment

A variety of folk remedies such as strong-smelling herbs or tinctures usually do not give a result. And such strong ones as turpentine, denatured alcohol or a mixture of them with vinegar can permanently ruin the sofa. Of course, they are not applicable if bedbugs were found in a new sofa.

The most effective way has always been and will be the processing of the sofa by special pest control services, but the same method is the most expensive. And if the bugs, apart from the sofa, did not have time to master other areas of the house, then it would be irrational to call specialists. It is easier to resort to the help of Karbofos or the Executioner.

How do bed bugs infest sofas?

You may be wondering where bed bugs come from. The answer is usually quite simple: the insects either come from neighbors or arrive on clothes, with bags or any equipment from shops or from guests. Once having drunk blood from a person sleeping on the sofa in a new room for them, they do not crawl away far, but remain in the crevices of the sofa in order to repeat the meal in a few days.

One female or two or three larvae in a new sofa is enough for a whole colony to appear here in a few months - the bugs multiply and grow very quickly. It may even give the impression that the bugs bred in the sofa overnight. Especially for those who are not too sensitive to their bites and did not feel single attacks.

Bed bugs under sofa upholstery

Strictly speaking, bedbugs do not have a colony as such, they just get together and give the impression of an organized group. Here they lay their eggs, here they molt, and therefore, even without detecting running insects, one can easily calculate their presence in the sofa by certain signs.

We are looking for bedbugs and find out if they are

Before finding bed bugs in the sofa, the landlord can almost always notice other signs of living together with these insects:

  1. Bites. If there are few bedbugs in the sofa, then their bites can be mistaken for mosquitoes. But when the colony grows, abundant lesions in the morning can no longer be confused with anything: they cover even a body well wrapped up for the night, and among the total set of red dots one can find noticeable “paths” of three or four bites. This is the "handwriting" of the bug, which pricks a person several times in one feeding.
  2. Excrement. Often they come across under the sofa when cleaning the apartment: small black dots that look like simple pieces of dirt from the street. If they appear regularly in the bedroom, you should be vigilant.
  3. Smell. Not too strong, similar to the smell of almonds or raspberries. Usually it starts to feel good with a large number of bedbugs, and people who are especially sensitive to smells will feel it quickly.

If the sofa itself is disassembled or the mattress raised, it will immediately become clear whether bedbugs are hiding in it. No other insects inhabit sleeping places in such dense colonies. Therefore, when you can see the hectic movement of small cockroach-like creatures of various sizes on the underside of the mattress, you can definitely say that bedbugs have started up in the sofa.

And further: Poison bugs, but they appear again? It's time to think about prevention, and this is a delicate matter ...

A few words about what sofa bugs look like: outwardly, they look like cockroaches, only small and wide enough. They run fast, but slower than cockroaches, and if you look closely at them, the absence of wings is striking. In addition, the color of bedbugs is monophonic, while red cockroaches have spots in the cephalothorax.

Bedbug eggs are up to half a millimeter long and are found in the same place where adult insects are found. In general, the bug settlement looks like a small dump: parasites of different ages swarm here, from small larvae to adult insects, skins left after molting are piled in heaps, and all this is diluted with excrement and eggs. For especially impressionable people, such a sight under the mattress of their favorite bed can cause a real shock.

Finding bed bugs in the couch is only part of the job, and not as hard to solve as the task of driving them out of the couch. And if bedbugs are found in the apartment, you need to take measures to destroy them as soon as possible.

This is horror, I encountered it for the first time, they are fleeing from a drunk neighbor. I just don’t process it, 2 days, they eat again, bites in huge spots, itching is unreal. The neighbor does not let anyone in, and until the hearth itself is removed, it is useless, I think, to fight with them. Lord, but what is this for?

Same problem as the previous speaker, apparently. In the neighborhood live dubious-looking citizens, and even a hostel. My bedbugs once or twice - and it will not be difficult to find yourself in my room. Today I sat, read before going to bed, I feel something crawling over me, I look - a bug, and not a small red-haired one, but already hefty and already black from my blood! Scared to death. I knocked out all the bedding, and then hung it out on the balcony to ventilate, I’m sitting here now, waiting. And it’s the third hour of the night ((Yes, and it’s scary to sleep now. Tomorrow morning I’ll run early for Dichlorvos!

I've been fighting these bastards for 3 months now. Looks like it was brought from Turkey. I tried dichlorvos and raptor - they don't care. I bought a steam generator. Steamed the sofa already 4 times. They still survive. Parasites run fast, it can be seen that while you scald one side, they move to the other. And the sofa is new, it's a pity to throw it away, 37000.

Hi all! Last year, the neighbors sold the apartment and residents from Kazakhstan moved there. And oh, horror, after a few months we couldn't sleep. We have small children, I'm allergic to bites. In the summer they called the masters. Travanuli. Class. Until the next summer, they lived like in paradise. Neighbors come and go. With an interval of three months. This year the bugs came again, and there are no neighbors at home. They are in Kazakhstan. Again we have Bartholomew nights. Just call the experts. No other way.

Oh God! Last night I also felt that someone was running over me. It turned out - a bug. I'm sitting in the kitchen now, I can't sleep anymore. There is no way to go to the children's room - I'm afraid to wake them up. Tomorrow I will throw out the sofa! How to poison them if there are small children and a cat in the house? And we have nowhere to go. Below us, on the first floor, lives a lonely grandmother, about seventy years old, often drinks. From it, probably, reptiles creep! I am terrified.

Buy Tsifoks dilute in three liters of water. Pour into a sprayer and spray everything, forget it in a week. It does not immediately act, but it will be necessary to leave the apartment for the day or for the night.

Dichlorvos does not help, try Medilis Super or Medilis Malathion, it kills eggs. The manufacturer's website has instructions and consumption. And it is necessary to poison correctly, all places of possible settlement and habitation: behind wallpaper, batteries, jambs of wooden doors, all the cracks in furniture, back walls of cabinets, behind baseboards.

Do not believe it, today I also found bedbugs in the children's sofa, there was a panic. The little one had bites, but we thought it was hives. And today I found this with the elder, I decided to move the sofa away - and kapets! They began to crawl a little, I did not know what to do, I was afraid that they would crawl. In general, pshikala some rubbish from cockroaches - it's useless. And then she grabbed Silit Bang - it helps with fat. They dry right up and hang upside down. She made a trap - she sprinkled the floor around the sofa so that they would not spread before her husband arrived.

Do not believe me, so I sprinkled everything with them, I spent a large bottle. Try it, just tie a good bandage and do not forget to moisten it so that you don’t get addicted to chemistry.

Silit Bankt helped, but we threw out the sofa exactly, did not take risks. Then she climbed everything - it seems that there are no bedbugs anywhere. We don't have carpets and carpets, we don't like it. The children had a small rug near the sofa, they also threw it away. I will be spraying the baseboard and furniture for a week, then washing it. I think that's all.
