Is the insecticidal preparation Agran really capable of effectively destroying bedbugs? ..

Means Agran is a Russian-made combined insecticidal preparation intended for the destruction of various synanthropic insects and other arthropods: bedbugs, cockroaches, ants, ticks, moths and others. In practice, the owners of houses and apartments most often use Agran against bedbugs. This is partly due to the fact that due to the presence of two insecticidal components of different classes in Agran, the agent can be effective even when bedbugs are resistant to other drugs, while simpler agents are suitable against more “simple” cohabitants (cockroaches, for example). – gels, sticky traps, Dichlorvos, etc.

Nevertheless, the reviews of those who have already had the opportunity to use Agran from bedbugs are divided into two opposite groups: some people praise the remedy and write that it helped them, while others, on the contrary, complain that the drug did not work and is a "dummy" .

Review:

“We ordered processing in a special service, an employee arrived from there, he was very late due to the large number of orders. He examined the apartment for a long time, said that we didn’t have so many bedbugs, it would be easy to get them out. It took even longer to fill out the contract, then he began to spray the premises. I specially remembered the name of the poison - Agran, because I will not be able to forget this stench for a long time. Such frank rotten stuff, as if someone died in the apartment. Moreover, this smell did not disappear for several days. But the most annoying thing is that the bugs have not disappeared! Moreover, they did not even decrease. I started to find them even on curtains and in closets with linen, I saw them crawl out a couple of times during the day ... Here are the specialists with their super-poison.

Alla, Moscow

Indeed, the drug Agran has specific properties that must be considered before starting work with it. For example, the drug has a strong unpleasant odor that can persist for a long time in the treated apartment. Mattresses, sofas, armchairs and other interior items that absorb the solution well can acquire this smell for a long time. When working with the product, it is important to use personal protective equipment and carefully follow the instructions for use, since the components of the product, if inhaled or ingested, can lead to poisoning.

At the same time, Agran is relatively inexpensive. The price of a bottle for 50 ml of emulsion concentrate is approximately 300 rubles, and the instructions indicate that this amount, with the necessary dilution against bedbugs, is enough to process up to 100 m2 surfaces in the room.

The tool is also sold in larger packaging (1 liter and 5 liters):

Agran in bottles of 1 and 5 liters (for professional exterminators).

A little lower, we will take a closer look at what failures in the use of Agran against bed bugs are associated with, but for a start it is useful to say a few words about the composition of the drug and the mechanism of its action on parasites ...

Review

“The most reliable poison that helped us get rid of bedbugs is Agran. Before him, the apartment was flooded with various solutions, smeared with crayons everywhere, even the wallpaper had to be removed so that this infection could not hide behind them. When they bought Agran, they no longer believed in success. I will say right away - I almost died myself while processing the apartment. The smell is terrible. The cat has been living on the street for the third week already, he does not enter the apartment, although we almost do not feel the aroma. But there are no bedbugs! None at all! After six months of constant biting, it was even unusual, and then I got used to it ... So the remedy works, but it requires a clothespin on the nose.

The composition of the drug and the effect of its components on bedbugs

The composition of the insecticidal agent Agran includes two active ingredients:

  • Chlorpyrifos is the main component, the mass fraction of which in the preparation is 50%. This is an organophosphorus compound that has a pronounced contact and intestinal effect on insects (due to which it destroys bedbugs, even just getting on their paws or body upon accidental contact, including several days and even weeks after the pest control); The main active ingredient of Agran is chlorpyrifos.
  • Cypermethrin - it is in the composition of the drug 5%. Designed to enhance the action of chlorpyrifos and to have an effect when the insects being destroyed are resistant to the action of the first component. It also has a pronounced contact and intestinal poisoning effect. The insecticide cypermethrin is used as an auxiliary active ingredient in the preparation.

When processing the premises, those bugs on which the sprayed agent directly hit in the form of an aerosol will die most quickly. In this case, the drug enters the hemolymph through the chitinous covers of the insect and its spiracle (in the latter case, the effect manifests itself faster). In the nerve ganglia of bedbugs, chlorpyrifos and cypermethrin disrupt the mechanism of regulation of excitation of nerve cells, and the poisoned insect quickly develops paralysis, which soon leads to death.

On a note

Depending on the amount of the agent that has fallen on the body of the bug, as well as on the stage of development of the parasite (nymphs are more sensitive to insecticides), death occurs within 1-2 hours after treatment. It is quite obvious that during processing it is important to try to find as many nests and shelters of bedbugs as possible in the apartment and treat the maximum number of parasites with the drug.

When the drug dries on the treated surface, forming an inconspicuous layer, it retains its poisonous activity. - the bugs run through it, and the particles of the product stick to the paws and abdomen of the insects. After that, insecticides penetrate through the chitinous covers into soft tissues, from there into the hemolymph, and from it into the nerve ganglia. Further, the poisoning proceeds in the same way as in the direct treatment of the insect, however, here the action will be greatly extended in time. Bedbugs, after such contact with a dried insecticide, usually die within 24 hours.

And further: We caught bedbugs and tested the effect of GEKTOR powder on them - a pretty killer thing turned out to be ...

Bedbugs die, even just in contact with a surface previously treated with Agran.

As auxiliary components, the Agran preparation includes emulsifiers (8%) and a hydrocarbon solvent (37%). By the way, in many respects it is the organic solvent that provides the sharp unpleasant odor of the concentrate and the finished aqueous solution. Meanwhile, many people unknowingly attribute this smell to the "killer chemicals" used in Agran, although in reality chlorpyrifos and cypermethrin do not have such a strong unpleasant odor.

Review:

“Agran is a remedy as powerful as it is smelly. Imagine the scent from a decomposed corpse floating in a sewer. Like this, only Agran stinks five times stronger! Either from poison, or from the smell alone, but the bugs close their eyes forever. A fact is a fact: they brought it out at one time ... "

Igor, Krasnoyarsk

The likelihood of bedbug resistance to Agran is practically excluded. To date, no populations of bed bugs are known that are resistant to both cypermethrin and chlorpyrifos. Therefore, if the drug is used correctly, then all the bugs on which the remedy will fall will be destroyed.

The failures that are spoken about in the reviews may be associated with the following nuances that are not always taken into account when fighting bedbugs:

  • If the apartment is not carefully treated, then, naturally, many parasites will remain alive and continue to multiply;
  • Even if during treatment it is possible to destroy almost all bugs, the remaining eggs of parasites will give a new generation of larvae in a few weeks (most insecticides have little effect on bug eggs due to their dense protective shell). And if you do not re-treat until the moment of puberty of young individuals, then the population of bedbugs in the room will restore its numbers after a while;Bedbug eggs on the end of a wooden board
  • Even if everything is done correctly and killed when processing all the bugs, new parasites can come from neighbors. As practice shows, few people think about preventive measures and blocking the ways of migration of bedbugs from neighboring premises.

As you can see, there are enough important nuances, and if they are not taken into account, then it is unlikely that it will be possible to cope with bloodsuckers even with the help of highly effective insecticidal preparations.

Does Agran kill bed bug eggs?

Generally speaking, the ovicidal action of Agran, that is, its ability to kill bedbug embryos developing in eggs, remains in question today.

It should be understood that Agran is not able to destroy all the eggs of bed bugs in the room, and larvae will begin to hatch from them in any case.

On the one hand, many organophosphorus compounds in experiments on other insects demonstrate the ability to infect eggs and prevent larvae from hatching from them.At the same time, the effectiveness of chlorpyrifos specifically and specifically against bed bug eggs has not been strictly confirmed, and therefore one cannot be sure that the eggs will die even with direct treatment of bed bug nests with Agran.

Cypermethrin does not have an ovicidal effect.

In any case, even before the first use of Agran, one must initially understand that even if some of the bedbug eggs are destroyed by the agent, and the nymphs do not hatch out of them, then the eggs will most likely remain unharmed in the room, which the drug will not affect. From these eggs, after the death of all adult bugs and larvae, young growth will hatch. Therefore, re-treatment with Agran is required in most cases.

Consumption rates of funds in the fight against bedbugs

In accordance with the official instructions for use, to remove bed bugs, Agran is recommended to be diluted at a concentration of 5.5 ml per 1 liter of water (the contents of one 50 ml bottle are diluted in 9 liters of water). However, exterminators with experience in this field are advised to increase the concentration by diluting 10 ml of the drug in 1 liter of water.

In the future, when processing the premises, it is recommended to apply 50 ml of the resulting working solution to each square meter of the treated surface that does not absorb moisture, and 100 ml of the working solution to the same area of the absorbing surface.

The table below shows the norms for diluting Agran with water when removing various insects (excerpt from the instructions):

Table with dilution rates for Agran

(If it is supposed to fight simultaneously with several species of insects, then a solution with the highest required concentration is prepared).

Review:

“I tried to use Agran from bed bugs.I sprayed all the wallpaper joints, skirting boards and crevices, threw away the mattresses, and my wife washed everything at a temperature and stroked it. But after 2 months, the bugs reappeared. Repeated processing on a new one, but the result is the same. Then the guys from the SES told me that nothing helps me because the bugs get into the apartment from the neighbors.

Ivan Sergeevich, Tambov

Rules for the use of Agran against bedbugs

Even before processing the apartment with Agran, it is necessary to calculate exactly how the bugs entered the room. If they came and continue to come from neighbors, you need to find the places through which they enter the apartment and fix them. These can be gaps in door frames, ventilation, joints of sewerage and heating pipes with concrete floors, gaps in floors and walls, sockets.

It is also useful to read: Getting rid of bed bugs with vinegar

And further: Well, what can I say - Get Total picked bedbugs for 2.5 hours, but still did its job ...

Bed bugs from neighbors can get into your apartment even through outlets in the walls.

As long as such "corridors" remain open, even after the complete extermination of bedbugs in the apartment, new parasites will calmly climb here again, as soon as the agent wears off, and as a result, the handler may not even notice a special effect from its use.

On a note

In many cases, it is precisely because of the presence of a connection with infected premises that the impression arises that Agran does not work and is not able to destroy bedbugs - corresponding negative reviews appear. This, by the way, is also true for most other insecticidal agents, including very effective ones: the handler simply does not notice a pronounced effect, since new parasites get into the apartment almost immediately after the destruction of the old ones, and plus the bug larvae gradually hatch from the surviving eggs.

Therefore, blocking the ways of penetration of bedbugs into an apartment from neighboring infected premises is no less important procedure than the correct use of Agran.

Before using the drug Agran indoors, it is necessary to free the approaches to all walls and baseboards, to the back walls of cabinets, bedside tables, mezzanines. Things are taken out of wardrobes and packed in plastic bags. If it is planned to process the kitchen, then dishes and food should also be hidden in bags or taken out of the apartment.

Mattresses and bed linen must be removed from the beds, all things folded there should be removed from the internal shelves of the sofas.

To increase the effectiveness of treatment from bedbugs, the apartment must be carefully prepared for this procedure.

Agran is diluted with tap water at the desired concentration in a container of a suitable size, after which the finished solution is poured into a spray device. For self-treatment, you can use, for example, a bottle from some household product with a spray nozzle (you can use a household spray bottle used for spraying plants). A garden sprayer is even more efficient, reducing the time and effort spent on spraying.

Processing is carried out with open windows (after processing, they should be closed).

Walls, skirting boards, carpets, upholstered furniture, mattresses, bedside tables and cabinets inside and outside are sprayed with the product. If parquet is laid on the floor in a room, it should be processed completely; on a laminate or linoleum, only the edges are processed. Bookshelves, carpets and paintings on the walls are also subject to processing. Especially carefully found nests of bedbugs with accumulations of parasites and eggs are processed.

The picture shows the places in the room, the processing of which should be given special attention (there most often you can find nests of bedbugs).

After that, the room should be left and left to "infuse" for 3-4 hours. Then it is thoroughly wet cleaning and airing. If a strong smell of the product remains in the room, it is not recommended to stay and, especially, spend the night here.

On a note

If after a few days or even weeks small larvae of parasites (nymphs) are found in the room, they are most likely hatched from eggs that were not destroyed during processing. In this case, 15-20 days after the first treatment, it is important to process the room again. During this time, nymphs will hatch from all the eggs, and none of them will have time to reach an adult state and lay new eggs, and the product, when re-treated, will destroy all insects in the room. If everything is done correctly, then the fight against bedbugs on this can be considered completed.

Toxicity to humans and animals, safety measures

According to the degree of impact on the body when injected into the stomach, Agran belongs to the 3rd hazard class for humans (moderately hazardous substance), and the working solution belongs to the 4th hazard class (low-hazardous substance). Be that as it may, for the treatment with this agent, personal protective equipment must be used to avoid getting the drug into the eyes, respiratory tract and digestive tract.

The instructions for use require the handler to wear long sleeves, goggles, a respirator and rubber gloves. During processing, all residents and pets must be removed from the apartment.

When handling any insecticidal agent, personal protective equipment must be used.

If irritation or itching appears on the skin during treatment, or if symptoms of intoxication are felt in the form of headaches, nausea and dizziness, the treatment should be stopped and go to fresh air. If symptoms worsen, induce vomiting, drink activated charcoal (10-15 tablets) and see a doctor. In no case should you induce vomiting in a person who has lost consciousness.

Also, work should be stopped when signs of allergy appear: itching in the nose, sneezing, tearing.

If Agran is not available for sale, it can be replaced with Chlorpyrivate-Agro or Nurell-D preparations, which have an absolutely identical composition. But as practice shows, Agran is easier to buy in stores (including online stores) than its counterparts.

Review

“A neighbor saved us from bedbugs. Apparently, he already had experience in dealing with these creatures. I saw the eldest son without a shirt and immediately understood what was the matter. Early on Saturday morning, he showed up to us with a canister of solution (as they later found out, he used Agran) and introduced us all to socially useful work)). They sprayed all the joints between the wallpaper, all the baseboards, beds, sofas from the sprayer, turned the covers from the mattresses. Repeated a month later. Now for the last 3 months we have only cautiously looked around, but so far it’s clean.”

Tatiana, St. Petersburg

In general, it can be noted that, with proper use, Agran is quite capable of destroying the entire population of parasites in the house.

In conclusion, it can be noted that, when used correctly, Agran really helps to fight bedbugs and may well be used to independently remove these parasites.Taking into account all the above nuances, the drug effectively destroys adult bugs and nymphs, and after two consecutive treatments with an interval of 2-3 weeks, all insects will be destroyed in the room.

If you have experience in using Agran against bedbugs or other insects, be sure to share interesting information on this topic by leaving your feedback at the bottom of this page (in the comment box).

Agran is not worth the effort. There are drugs, or mixes that cope with bedbugs the first time. It all depends on the experience of the master or the availability of normal drugs. Breathing, spoiling health after treatment with Agran is BDSM. Not a single master for himself (that is, at home) will use such a drug if he is not an idiot. And for clients everything will do. That's the whole essence of such masters.

He processed the apartment with Agran at a concentration of 50 ml per 4 liters of water. Zero sense, they ate in a day in full. Behind the closet on the floor, I found only three individuals in a coma. The residual smell after all the airings comes from the parquet, but they are ready to endure it if they understand that the product is working. But, alas, along the way ... Flies die immediately, like spiders, but bedbugs do not. Before that, I bought an Anticlope Blockade at the SES in a specialized store, sprayed it twice, there was no sense either ... Today I’ll try Kukaracha.
