If the examination shows that there are lice on the child’s head, then you should not hesitate to remove them. But what is the best way to do this?

If a child has lice, you need to deal with parasites quickly and effectively, without giving insects time to multiply and cause serious skin lesions. However, as practice shows, not all parents know how to get lice out of a child. Often such knowledge is limited to memories from their distant childhood, when lice were mercilessly poisoned with kerosene and vinegar.

Next, we will consider how to remove lice from a child as efficiently and safely as possible for himself and for his parents, eliminating the risk of infecting them during the procedure.

It is important to understand that lice are not a runny nose, they will not “pass” on their own, you need to purposefully fight them, and the sooner you start, the better. It is not necessary, by your inaction, to doom the child to ever-increasing suffering from itching, and those around you to the risk of becoming infected from it.

Lice will not disappear from the child's head on their own - they need to be fought

Yes, and in addition to the banal itching from lice bites, a child may develop an allergy with serious generalized symptoms, ulcerative skin lesions. In rare cases, lice can cause infection with deadly diseases - relapsing fever and typhus.

Lice bites can lead not only to allergic rashes in a child, but also cause more serious diseases.

The only thing that needs to be done before removing lice from a child is to make sure that it is lice. After all, other parasites can leave itchy bites, and an incorrect diagnosis will only delay a successful recovery.

Is it really lice?

Lice (scientifically - pediculosis) is characterized by the following symptoms:

  • Distinctly noticeable bites in the form of small swellings of a dark pink color with a red dot in the middle. If they are not there, then most likely the cause of all the trouble is either a virus or a scabies mite.
  • Itching, especially strong in places of bites. In the case of head lice, on the head.
  • The presence of nits in the hair. Nits are lice eggs, small white dots at a distance of 1-2 cm from the surface of the skin, each firmly attached to its own hair.
  • And, of course, the lice themselves, which come across when combing out, and just with a thorough examination of the hair.

To detect lice, you must first carefully examine the child's hair.

Detecting lice is quite easy and with a simple combing of hair over a light-colored cloth.

On a note

The louse reaches an average length of 1 to 3 mm, usually has a white or grayish-yellow color. All types of lice (head, pubic and linen) are inactive. Unlike fleas, lice do not know how to jump, and unlike bedbugs, they live directly on a person. Bedbugs most often hide in furniture, in crevices behind skirting boards and behind wallpaper.

Ways to remove lice in children

To remove lice and nits from a child, today it is advisable to use popular and effective modern means - insecticidal shampoos, lotions and special combs can reliably remove lice from a child.

Modern combs allow you to effectively remove not only lice, but also nits from your hair

However, the most effective will be a combined method of combating parasites, in which:

  • The child's head is treated with a pediculicide. This can be a lice shampoo, lotion, cream, or gel (it is less preferable to use folk remedies such as hellebore water and vinegar). The product should be held on the head for the time specified in the instructions (usually at least half an hour), then rinse the head thoroughly with running water.
  • Still wet hair is combed out strand by strand with a special hard and thick lice comb. In order to remove lice from a child with long hair, it is necessary to tie all the hair in a ponytail on one side of the head, and, separating small strands from the bundle, carefully comb them out. You need to draw a comb from the very roots - there are most of all both lice and nits. In general, this measure is needed, firstly, to remove the insects that died during the previous procedure, and secondly, to get rid of some of the nits.
  • A week after treatment, both operations must be repeated. For a week, larvae are hatched from the surviving nits, which are destroyed during re-treatment.

And further: Paranit from lice - a dummy that you can’t wash off your hair with, or a really effective thing? (the article has more than 70 comments)

It is necessary to start combing out lice and nits with a comb from the very roots of the hair.

You can use these methods separately - this is also often done. At the same time, shampoos and other chemicals are generally more effective than combs. The latter require several days for thorough combing of the hair and constant control of the head for a week or two after treatment. However, combs provide protection against the side effects of chemicals and skin irritation, which can be especially important if your child is prone to allergies.

Important!

It is impossible to remove nits from a child without the simultaneous destruction of adult lice. It is lice that bite, and their eggs are a consequence of the vital activity of parasites and a comfortable stay on the head.As long as at least one female is alive, nits will continue to appear in the hair further.

In some cases, even before the use of all means, the child's head can be shaved (if the parents and the child consider it acceptable from an aesthetic point of view). If the removal of lice occurs in spring or summer, it will also help to quickly heal wounds from bites and dry the skin on the head.

Haircut bald - a radical, but at the same time very effective way to deal with lice

After such a procedure, it will be enough to wash your hair with shampoo once and forget about lice. Of course, in most cases it will be undesirable to remove lice from a child with long hair, especially from a girl, in this way.

Lice shampoos

The advantage of lice shampoos is their ease of use. They are applied to the child's head in the same way as simple shampoos, they foam well and have a pleasant smell. Almost all of them are made on the basis of Permethrin, an effective insecticide that is relatively harmless to humans (Permethrin is quickly broken down in the digestive tract), but has a nerve-paralytic effect on the insects themselves.

Permethrin is part of many modern antiparasitic drugs.

Among the shampoos for lice, the following can be distinguished:

  • NOC is one of the most famous. It is applied to the head for 30-40 minutes, it is easily washed off, but if it gets into the eyes, it causes irritation. Do not use it for children under 2 years of age and pregnant women.
  • Veda and Veda-2 are also quite strong tools that have a composition similar to the NOC.
  • Biosim is a remedy for children and adolescents. 20 ml of shampoo is applied to the head at a time, which must be lathered strongly.

Veda remedy for lice

More powerful shampoos like Nyx should not be used on children.

With the help of shampoos, regular prevention of pediculosis can be carried out. To do this, it is enough to wash the child’s head once every two weeks with the addition of small amounts of the product. With this approach, even single parasites that have fallen on the head are destroyed without having time to multiply. It is only important to monitor the reaction of the child's skin to such procedures, and if signs of allergy appear, immediately cancel them.

Lotions and creams for lice

These funds are used by analogy with shampoos. They should be applied to the entire surface of the head, carefully rubbed into the base of the hair. The exposure time is usually at least 20 minutes, but depending on the age of the child and the degree of infection, it can be up to 40 minutes.

And further: It's time to finally get those annoying nits out of your hair (the article has over 100 comments)

The most famous of these tools are:

  • Medifox, considered today one of the most effective remedies for head lice.
  • Nittifor
  • Paranit.

Lice shampoo Paranit

Review

“And we poisoned lice in both children (4 and 5 years old) with Medifox. We were warned that the drug is an adult and we need to be careful. But nothing seemed to happen. Once they smeared the head, put on scarves, kept it like that for about half an hour, then washed the head for a long time - the remedy lasts a long time. However, not only did the lice disappear, but the children's hair just got better, stronger, or something.

Tatyana, Kaluga

Sprays for children

In terms of effectiveness, these remedies are generally somewhat inferior to the previous groups due to the fact that in children with thick hair it is difficult for the drug to “get” to the very scalp, where there are most lice. However, these funds are quite economical and, when using a scarf, cap or bag, provide a completely reliable effect of toxic substances on parasites.

When using LiceGuard spray in the fight against lice, it is necessary to avoid getting it into the eyes.

Lavinal lice spray is based on herbal ingredients

Of this group, Para-Plus, Lavinal and LiceGuard are the most well-known.

Folk remedies for lice for children

But with folk remedies for lice, when ridding children of parasites, one should be extremely careful. The same famous kerosene or vinegar can lead to irritation and skin burns, and safer ones should be preferred from traditional medicine:

  • hellebore water
  • cranberry juice
  • tincture of tansy or wormwood
  • boric ointment.

You can also remove lice from a child with a decoction of wormwood

In pharmacies, you can find wormwood tincture ready for use.

These products should be applied to the head in the same way as lotions or shampoos. It is only important to understand that, on average, folk recipes are less effective than modern insecticidal preparations for lice. Accordingly, it is desirable to combine them with the use of combs.

Combing parasites

Lice combs are relatively new products that have become popular due to the fact that they can eliminate the use of chemical pest control methods.

Today there are several brands of such combs:

  • AntiV - perhaps the most advertised in Russia
  • LiceGuard - analogue of AntiV
  • RobiComb is an interesting development with the function of destroying lice due to electrical discharges. This is not to say that this feature greatly simplifies the task of getting rid of lice, but in general, as a RobiComb comb, it works in the same way as other combs.

Lice Comb LiceGuard

There are no fundamental differences between different combs, and therefore the efficiency of all of them is approximately the same.

If you use combs as the only means of dealing with lice in a child, it is necessary for 4-5 days to carefully comb all the hair strand by strand over the bath or white sheet every day, and flush the combed lice into the toilet.

When combing out lice and nits in a child, it is necessary to ensure that the parasites do not get on the floor

Review

“We bought such a comb to get our daughter out of lice, but it turned out that she infected us too. So I had to ask her to comb us. A good thing, effective, but there are a lot of troubles with this comb.At least half an hour is needed to comb out the head, lice rain down, and the next day - the same amount. It feels like they are reborn there. But after three days they are almost gone.”

Alla, Kemerovo

How to treat the effects of lice

In cases where the lice infestation turned out to be too strong and the child began to have serious irritations, up to pustular rashes, immediately after removing the lice, he should be shown to a dermatologist. Usually, in these situations, antihistamines, wound healing preparations, Asterisk-type balms, and sometimes ultraviolet irradiation of the head are prescribed. It is important in such cases not to show initiative and trust the doctor - self-medication can further aggravate the situation.

And of course, when getting rid of lice, you must remember about the safety of the deliverer himself. While the child gets rid of the lice, the parasites can easily get on the head of the mother or father and then safely multiply there. Therefore, the fight against lice in children should be carried out in a headdress, and even better - for all family members at the same time.

Without combing out the nits, no medicine will help! Buy an Antive medical comb and after you have treated your hair with a chemical agent, comb out the nits. You have to be very careful. Don't skip a single strand of hair. And so three times repeat the procedure, within a week get rid of the parasites. Good luck!

Try a simple washing powder for hand washing: lather your head, wrap it in something and walk around for a couple of hours. You can wash your hair at night, in the morning.

When my 2.5-year-old daughter brought them from the garden, I went nuts, like everyone else here, I guess. I never had lice and I didn’t even know what they looked like, but I immediately realized that they were. Hair stood on end! My daughter found 3 individuals and a lot of eggs, I have 3 individuals and no eggs, my husband is clean. My daughter and I were treated, and my husband did preventive measures. So, our fight with them:
DAY 1. Cream Nix (430 rubles) + combing. About nothing. I didn’t find any living individuals (and dead ones too) the bad comb doesn’t comb out anything, all the nits are alive.
DAY 2. Tar soap (30 rubles) for an hour + pediculen ultra comb (230 rubles) + ironing all over the head. There are no live individuals, dead ones too, nits 50% live 50% dry. The scallop is super, cleaned a lot.
DAY 3 and 4. Only combing and ironing. There are almost no nits left, I found pieces of 4 these days, there are no lice.
DAY 5. I found a living creature, my hands dropped straight down ((dragged the child into the bath and lathered Lugovoi shampoo for cats (100 rubles) + combing + iron. No nits, no lice.
DAY 6,7,8. Combing, ironing. No nits, no lice.
DAY 9. One live louse ... Mdyaaya, I thought and ran to the pharmacy. Paranit Sensitive (970 rubles) for the night. No nits, no lice. It's been 2 weeks and I haven't found anything.

A metal medical comb will definitely not cause addiction. And yes, it is 100% safe and effective. I ordered such a scallop on the Internet, it takes several days by mail. I immediately also took a special balm - it is easier to comb the hair with it, they do not get confused and do not cling to the comb. The article correctly says that the treatment needs to be repeated after a few days. I did this three times, just in case.

I advise women to paint their heads with paint, preferably at 6 or 9 percent, and children must be combed out, only string cotton wool soaked in vinegar on a comb, it destroys the chitinous layer of nits, due to which they stay on the hair. And of course, try shampoos that basically kill live individuals, but no nits. I wash with these shampoos every 3 days for 2-3 weeks.

Arode is gone, I look the next day - twice as much as it was! Again to the pharmacy - I bought the most expensive thing that was: Hedring Comfort mousse. I applied it, I didn’t even have to wash it off and comb it out (I didn’t even believe it right away), just dry it with a hairdryer 🙂

We suffered for a couple of months until we decided to turn to specialists. Fortunately, my daughter was delivered from this scourge on the same day we called. It turns out that this is possible when combing is done according to a special correct technique and the right tools are used to facilitate combing. It seems that some do not understand what lice are at all, and do not realize the principles of dealing with them - they write such nonsense, but it seems, adults. I’ll say right away that it’s better to buy more expensive means and immediately get rid of this infection. Don't skimp on health. Allow yourself to have huge lice! It's like being careless about yourself. Yes, do not withdraw for several months. Here from such heaps of other people are re-infected! You imagine what you are doing. Nyuda and Pediculen-ultra - I advise. And comb out the special. rowing day by day. After 3 days, repeat the treatment. Comb out again.Painstakingly and hard, yes, but get rid of lice for a long time. And think not only about yourself, but also about the people around you. If we continue to be careless and indifferent, then in the 21st century we will continue to suffer from this muck.

Someone in the comments wrote that a metal comb + balm. And this is absolutely true! The scallop helped us a lot. I and my two daughters suffered for three years! Any shampoos did not help or assist. When used correctly, they are quickly removed. Thank you for this comb. I recommend. I specially chose the time and wrote to you, knowing how you are suffering.

A couple plus spray helped us, but the nits, although they were already dead, I cut off one hair on which they were with nail scissors.Very painstaking, but effective work, but for sure, since nits are very tenacious. It’s just that they write here about metal combs and about specialists at home, damn it, how they call cockroaches to poison. But if there is no extra money, then this cheap remedy, good eyesight and patience are better.

I sympathize with everyone, both my daughter and herself are faced with this disaster. I started buying up a pharmacy: Veda-2, shampoo, did not help. I'm going to buy something else. Some disorders, I can’t, I understand that I’m not alone with this trouble 🙁

I don’t want to upset anyone, but Paranit by itself will not help, only in combination with combing, and always with a special fine comb, and not with an ordinary comb.

Spray Pediculen did not help, neither 1 nor 10 times. Thick long hair. Today I cut my hair with dog shampoo, we'll see. BUT! Rinse with vinegar too!

Is it better to comb out wet or dry hair?

All this is nonsense, your veda 2, paraplus, benzyl benzoate. They fought for two months, and got rid of lice and nits using the old-fashioned method at a time. They smeared the head with triple cologne and medical alcohol (sold in a pharmacy, 70%), mixed one to one. Wet your head. Here you can’t do without an assistant, a strong smell and you need to do everything as quickly as possible. For 4 hours under the package, on top of a hat or scarf. Then comb out the dead nits. You can get rid of them very quickly. And the longer the hair, the better.

Did you burn the child's head? I would be afraid to use this method to remove lice.

I would never do such a thing to a child. Then they would be removed with dust soap, but for so long sitting with triple colognes - you could burn the scalp and damage the bulbs. The D-95 remedy helped me out, my sons brought me from school a couple of times, both times the lice died from the remedy.

D-95 Twins Tek was recommended to me by a doctor. My son brought it from school, I told the pediatrician, she said that this remedy is more effective. I applied it to my hair along the entire length, left it for 45 minutes. Then combed out and washed off. Lice and nits died.

I took a remedy for lice D-95 911 in a pharmacy. It helped me get lice out of my daughter. She has such long hair, it took two packs and I repeated the procedure three days later, I was afraid that I might have missed it somewhere. But everything worked out, she had no more lice.
