cockroach breeding

Their hordes do not give a person peace, from them the walls in the house move, they are swarming in all corners. Something similar, with a certain degree of hostility and fear, people say about cockroaches, who have long lived side by side with them. Figurative expressions help to clearly imagine how cockroaches reproduce, ignoring the persistent attempts of the owner to get rid of them and showing incredible fertility.

The frantic rate of increase in the number of individuals, the ability to appear like a bolt from the blue, their invulnerability to the effects of many poisons and even radiation amaze the imagination, terrify and become an occasion for jokes.

"Red and mustachioed" boasts that it is the main character of many literary works, however, most often negative.

The history of human hatred for cockroaches

When it comes to not the most pleasant representatives of the Arthropod type, sensitive people twitch their shoulders in disgust. Those whose apartments are not threatened by cockroach breeding will turn away indifferently. And only a few can talk with delight about the gracefulness of insects for hours. One would admire the extraordinary agility of these special specimens from the world of fauna, if it were not for the historical enmity between Homo sapiens and cockroaches.

Scientists claim that the ancestors of cockroaches already existed during the Paleozoic era and successfully endured all the global changes on Earth. They preferred the climate of the tropical forests. It was there that ideal conditions were created for cockroach relatives, lovers of heat and moisture.

A person has learned to build houses, providing all-season comfort for himself and his smaller brothers - cockroaches. Insects have chosen buildings, there is always food and protection from natural disasters. They willingly occupied a niche next to a person, turning into synanthropes, which significantly increased their ability to bear offspring.

The shy, fussy creatures in the photographs are not particularly attractive, and when cockroaches begin to multiply actively, it becomes unbearable. In the old days, it never occurred to anyone to fight cockroaches, they had to be endured. The presence of such parasites in the hut was considered a sign of prosperity. Where the owners are in poverty, and the cockroaches have nothing to eat.

The Russian emperor Peter I had a strong dislike for such uninvited guests, and at the same time for the owners who allowed the reproduction of insects in their hut.

Insignificant, at first glance, creatures play a certain role in the life of human society. In previous centuries, hardly anyone could boast of the complete absence of insects in the house.

One well-known baker, fleeing the righteous wrath of the Governor-General, passed off a cockroach baked in a bun for raisins. Insects in his kitchen became so bold that, in a businesslike way, they ransacked nooks and crannies, landed in a vat of dough. That's how buns with raisins appeared because of the cockroach's curiosity, banal uncleanliness and resourcefulness of the baker.

The better people equipped their homes, the more eagerly the cockroaches mastered them, the population grew at a rapid pace, but humanity became more uncompromising. Multi-storey construction is accepted by insects with a bang. Plumbing is the greatest achievement of civilization. Leaking pipes, heating radiators - just a paradise for cockroaches, accustomed to heat and dampness.

And the careless attitude of people to products of cockroaches has long been appreciated. And no matter how much responsible tenants break their spears, defending their rights to housing in the fight against miserable boogers, there will always be those who want to profit at someone else's expense.

Having such cohabitants is a dubious pleasure, but this is not so bad. Breeding cockroaches encroach on shoes, books and the holy of holies - household appliances, and you cannot drag such "citizens" to court. From time to time, researchers find more and more shortcomings in the crawling brethren, declaring it to be the culprit in the development of bronchial asthma and a carrier of pathogens for a number of unpleasant diseases. The foregoing leads to the final rupture of the already strained relationship between man and cockroaches.

cockroach breeding

Domestic cockroaches, as typical representatives of their class, reproduce sexually. A specialist can easily distinguish a male from a female. Genuine interest in the breeding of these animals and in their sexual characteristics is shown by biologists and terrariumists who are passionate about the exotic. The poor fellow, who involuntarily became the owner of an army of cockroaches, does not run after them with a magnifying glass, eager to determine what sex the individuals have multiplied on his territory.

The cockroach suborder is characterized by a huge species diversity. Most of the species most familiar to the Russian eye have the following features:

  • the male is slightly smaller than the female.
  • In a sexually mature male, characteristic outgrowths, styli, can be found on the last segment.
  • Males have somewhat better developed wings, and in exceptional cases they can make small flights.

Male cockroaches

Female cockroaches are able to slightly flap their wings, inviting them to mate, the initial stage of the breeding process. For this, males are ready for feats: some are able to take off a little, Madagascar hissing cockroaches make threatening sounds and butt heads. They arrange real battles, proving their rights to the female.

After fertilization, the female lays eggs. As a rule, they have a protective capsule - edema.

Changes that occur in the structure of insects during life are called metamorphosis. An incomplete type of transformation is inherent in cockroaches: larvae emerge from eggs, they undergo several molts, each subsequent larva more and more resembles an adult, an imago.

Throughout her life, the female repeatedly lays eggs. There is also an interesting feature, after mating, the male gametes are stored for a long time in the body of the female, repeated clutches occur even without previous copulation.

The bulk of the insects that live in the dwelling are larvae that have not reached sexual maturity.

Insects have gained a lot from living together next to people. Houses and apartments are reliably protected from adverse weather conditions, households generously supply provisions, which allows cockroaches to multiply very quickly and exist comfortably.

The ubiquitous red cockroach

Let me introduce you, a popular runner in modern Russian cuisines - a red cockroach, so named because of its color. Blattella germanica - this is how zoologists call it. He also has a lot of nicknames. One of them, the Prussian, reflects the history of the adventures of this annoying animal. It is believed that he, an African by birth, was brought to Russia in his knapsacks and overcoats by soldiers returning home after the war with Prussia.

The Germans, on the contrary, are convinced that the cockroach came to Europe from Russia, and in western Germany it is called French. He has been everywhere. He managed to win in the competition with the black cockroach, due to the fact that he reaches puberty faster, is more fertile and takes longer to care for his offspring, and also from time to time feeds on black cockroach eggs, often abandoned to the mercy of fate.

The female Prusak carries the edema everywhere with her and leaves it only by the time the larvae are fully mature and ready to emerge.

The development of a cockroach from egg to adult takes about four months. At a sufficiently high ambient temperature, he is ready for mating after 3 months.

During the period of maturity, which lasts up to 30 weeks, one individual is able to give life to at least a hundred children. The reproduction of the ubiquitous red cockroaches is limited only by the lack of water and food.

Where did cockroaches go and will they die out like dinosaurs?

For the past decade or so, tenant dwellers have been struck by the absence of cockroaches, perpetual dependents, in their kitchens. Did the chemistry finally work? Or at the same time, all the neighbors became extremely clean, the taps stopped leaking, and all the cockroaches ran away in search of food and drink? Unlikely.

Scientists are seriously alarmed by their sudden disappearance. Versions are put forward one more incredible than the other. Someone claims that in our apartments there are too many tasteless, according to insects, things. They did not like genetically modified foods, mysterious dyes and preservatives, to which a person is already accustomed.

They did not like the smell of linoleum, the lack of old books with glued pages in the cabinets. They were killed by cellular communication or the destroyed ozone layer, and they fell victims of civilization.

Did they suffer the same fate as the dinosaurs? Hardly.Cockroaches have repeatedly proven their ability to adapt to the most adverse conditions. If they can withstand ionizing radiation, can high-frequency radio waves harm them? The Prussian goes without food for up to 20 days, would he really not have endured temporary difficulties.

Do not console yourself with the hope that the two-legged came out victorious in the battle with cockroaches. There is no doubt that they will return to our homes. They will put up with a modified human diet, try synthetic floor coverings, damage plastic. And these individuals, who survived the struggle for existence, will be more difficult to deal with. They may have become stronger, smarter, more agile.

So, a new stage of the battle with cockroaches, the fight against their mass reproduction on our territory, is probably ahead of us.

Why is it impossible to get cockroaches out of the apartment

What kind of fairy tales that they have gone somewhere? No where to go - proven by personal experience. And worst of all, it is very difficult to look for reasons: there are neighbors, and holes in the walls (improper work of unfinished builders), etc. etc.

If a person lives like a pig, then it goes without saying that they will come running to him. We need to keep the house clean.

It is not true that cockroaches appear in people who do not maintain cleanliness. We lived for many years without cockroaches, until unfortunate owners appeared behind the next wall. Cockroaches came to us through cracks in the baseboards!

And they have really disappeared. And it seems to me that this is all thanks to chemicals, products with GMOs, cellular and wireless radiation in combination! If you remember the 90s… It's a nightmare! Now, if you meet one redhead once a year, it’s a rarity.

I, too, will argue about the owners of gryaznul. We bought an apartment in a house under construction. When the house was handed over, already on the second day they found a cockroach in the apartment. We cannot deduce the year, all 10 floors suffer.

Our cockroaches are just teeming, as we live in the basement and the room can be called damp! And they are where it is warm and damp. And they poisoned us with everything they sprayed, smeared, painted, watered ... It helps for a short time, and again, and again. So it's not about cleanliness at all. In addition, they love places where there is something to eat))

We lived in a hostel for 7 months, while waiting for the rent at home. We thought that we would go crazy from these creatures. They really live where there is "social trouble". Dirt, stench, alcoholics and drug addicts, a garbage chute! They are there. Who lost them? They are in Kemerovo on Oktyabrsky Ave. Come!

We also used to have sooo many cockroaches. At night you get up to drink some water, and they already crunch under your feet. That was such a nightmare. Then my mother was advised to poison the cockroaches on the waning moon. Believe it or not, but for more than 20 years we have never seen these red reptiles.
