We test the effect of the Raptor aerosol on cockroaches

In this experiment, we will see how the Raptor spray from crawling insects affects ordinary red cockroaches.

Active ingredients means:

  • cypermethrin (content 0.2%);
  • tetramethrin (0.2%);
  • piperonyl butoxide is a so-called synergist that enhances the action of the first two components (0.5%).

This aerosol is positioned by the manufacturer as a professional remedy for the destruction of crawling insects (cockroaches, bed bugs, domestic ants, etc.).

Tetramethrin and cypermethrin, which are part of the Raptor aerosol, are contact insecticides, that is, they are able to destroy insects even with a simple hit on their chitinous covers. For example, when a cockroach runs over a previously treated and dried surface, the particles of the agent stick to the paws and integuments of the pest's body. Then they penetrate into the hemolymph of the cockroach and have a nerve-paralytic effect.

The volume of the can is 350 ml.

The instructions for use stated the consumption rate of 20 grams per 1 sq. m.

One can of Raptor aerosol is enough to treat approximately 60 sq. m. surfaces.

The price of the tool is about 200 rubles.

So, let us experimentally evaluate the effectiveness of the aerosol when it directly hits insects.

Watch video:

0 min 25 sec - Place four cockroaches (Prussians), 2 adults and 2 nymphs into a transparent plastic container.

0 min 40 sec - Gently spray the aerosol - so that the cockroaches are not blown away by the jet from the container. We turn on the stopwatch to assess the speed of action of the remedy.

On a note

When the canister button is pressed hard, the aerosol is sprayed with a jet that is too powerful. In practice (when processing in an apartment), this helps a lot, as it allows you to spray the product in hard-to-reach places where it would be problematic to stick your hand with a can.

Although the composition of the product clearly contains mint flavoring (when using, the sweetish aroma of mint is immediately felt), however, in general, the smell of the product is rather unpleasant.

During the experiment, we do not close the container with cockroaches so that the concentration of the Raptor agent in the air is approximately the same as during real processing in the apartment.

When aerosol particles hit cockroaches, the active substances penetrate into their body through the spiracles and external integuments, after which they gradually (quickly enough) cause paralysis.

1 min 34 sec - After 3 minutes 30 seconds from the start of the test, the first results of the product’s work are clearly visible: two cockroaches are paralyzed (died), but two more continue to remain active.

1 min 52 sec - After 1 hour 20 minutes from the start of the test, all cockroaches are dead.

Since in real conditions it is almost impossible to treat the cockroaches themselves, in practice it is necessary to treat the surfaces along which the cockroaches move, and rely only on the contact effect of the drug.

In the second part of the experiment, we look at whether cockroaches die quickly after they run over a previously treated and already dried surface.

2 min 30 sec - Spray Raptor crawling insect spray into an empty container and leave open for one hour to dry.

And further: But the Reid aerosol really works - cockroaches die quickly. Watch our video...

2 min 56 sec - After the spray has completely dried, we launch red cockroaches into the container.We do not close the container with a lid so that the experimental conditions are practically the same as when processing in an ordinary apartment. We start the stopwatch.

On a note

In those cockroaches that have turned over on their backs, a larger amount of the agent sticks to the body and, as a result, it begins to act faster than in the case of cockroaches standing on their legs.

3 min 20 sec - After one hour, the product worked. One cockroach is dead, two still continue to move, but can no longer run. In an apartment, they could run away to a shelter and die there, so dead insects may not be noticed after processing the premises. Cockroaches will just gradually become smaller.

3 min 43 sec - After 4 hours 11 minutes, all experimental cockroaches died.

We draw the following conclusions:

Aerosol Raptor from crawling insects is really capable of effectively destroying cockroaches. With a direct hit of the drug, cockroaches died after 1 hour and 20 minutes, and in case of contact with treated dried surfaces, they died within 4 hours and 11 minutes.

Accordingly, there is every reason to believe that when using Raptor in an apartment and a private house, the aerosol will indeed be able to help get rid of cockroaches.

It's important to know

If a large amount of this aerosol enters the respiratory tract, poisoning is possible. If the product gets into the eyes, mucous membranes or skin, it may cause irritation and itching. Therefore, when working, be sure to use personal protective equipment - rubber gloves, a respirator and goggles.
