Imagine a situation that you met an incomprehensible insect in your apartment and want to find out if it is a bug or not. Surely you look at photos of bed bugs on the Internet to compare them with those insects that caught your eye in the apartment. It may be that these parasites leave bites on the body of your child, or no bites were found, but the insect was found in the bedroom and you have a suspicion that it could be a house bug.

You are going in the right direction, you definitely need to figure out what large individuals, larvae and bug eggs look like. It is also important to find out what differences there are when compared with other common types of domestic insects, and what features will help to accurately identify the bug.

Let's take a closer look at this issue. The video shows what an adult bug or nymph of its last age is like. The main feature of these insects is a wide rounded body, it is slightly flattened on both sides. Visually, pests resemble a small coin with paws. The body length is about half a centimeter. The nymphs are slightly smaller, about 2-5 millimeters.

If the insect is hungry, then the color of the body is uniform, from light brown to dark brown. At the end of the abdomen, a small spot can be observed, which is half-digested blood.

Immediately, we note that bed bugs do not have wings. Moreover, this feature is inherent in all ages (from small to large individuals). This feature is one of the most important, such a nuance will immediately help you distinguish a real bed bug from other insects (for example, from cockroaches).

Visually, parasites can differ from each other, it depends on how long the insect fed on blood.

In those parasites that have recently bitten a person and sucked out blood, the abdomen is higher, elongated in length. Well-fed individuals cease to be flattened. The shade of the body also changes significantly: it becomes purple, almost black, this is affected by the blood that shines through the abdomen. After the insect has eaten, its length becomes almost 2 times larger when compared with a hungry individual.

And further: Aquafumigator Raptor - a non-standard contraption that gets bedbugs in all cracks, penetrating there in the form of poisonous vapor

If we take the average, then the females are slightly larger than the males. But only by this factor it is almost impossible to distinguish what sex the parasite is.

As for the nymphs, their difference from adults is primarily in size.

Young nymphs do not exceed 2 millimeters in length. After each molt, they become larger, and at the last age they practically do not differ from adults. When the larvae first hatch, they are about the same size as the eggs from which they were born. In terms of color, the larvae are significantly lighter in color when compared to adult bed bugs. In small individuals, the presence of blood in the abdomen is much better noticeable - when fed, it instantly becomes scarlet.

As soon as the larvae are born, their body shape is the same as that of adult insects: a wide flattened body with paws. After hatching, they do not look like caterpillars at all and do not even have anything similar to them, which is why bed bugs are classified as insects with incomplete transformation.

Pest eggs do not exceed one and a half millimeters. They have an almost transparent surface film through which the embryo is visible. By shade, they are easy to distinguish from the feces of domestic insects, among which eggs are usually found.

Bedbug eggs practically do not catch the eye in the apartment, as bloodsuckers lay them in hard-to-reach places. They are practically not found in a visible and accessible place, they are usually found under the floors, in a sofa, etc.

Of course, it is difficult to remember all the listed features, and it is not necessary. If you see an incomprehensible insect in the apartment, put it in a glass jar and watch this video again. So you can definitely determine whether it is a bug or not.
