The fire moth, or wax moth, lives near the bees, and its larvae are used to prepare the famous extract.

In folk healing, wax moth extract has been used for a long time. Back in the 17th century in Europe, wax moth larvae extract was used to treat high-ranking persons and those who had access to apiaries. However, only in the last century were the first scientific studies designed to confirm or refute the effectiveness of this drug.

The principle of action and scientific background to the effectiveness of the extract

If you deal with the issue of the effectiveness of wax moth extract as objectively and impartially as possible, without reading invented reviews and aggressive advertising from beekeepers-manufacturers, then the use of wax moth extract can be safely considered as using a placebo: serious studies confirming the effectiveness of this remedy have never been conducted.

Indeed, as sellers and manufacturers claim, the wax moth extract is based on a certain cerrase enzyme, a unique substance that can break down complex fat molecules. It is due to this enzyme that the larva allegedly digests beeswax.

The wax moth larva is able to digest wax, and the cerrase enzyme is believed to be able to break down the walls of pathogens.

Considering that the molecular walls of many bacteria consist of lipopolysaccharides, partly chemically related to waxes, pseudo-doctors began to actively exploit the idea that wax moth extract can kill tuberculosis bacteria and some other diseases.

It sounds very plausible, given that the principle of the remedy is so well described. But in fact, everything is not so smooth.

First, the cerrase enzyme is not known to science. This name appears only in advertising of dietary supplements and all the same alcohol extract of wax moth larvae. And if chemists who carefully studied the composition of wax moth larvae did not find this substance, there are serious doubts about its existence in nature in general.

On a note

The only person who described the enzyme cerrase is a certain Mukhin, who appears in various sources either as E.O., or as S.A. He did not write a dissertation, but spoke about the enzyme in very admiring tones. Almost the same as the sellers of dietary supplements say.

Further, from a purely fundamental point of view, almost all bacteria contain lipids as part of their membranes. Accordingly, the miraculous enzyme must indiscriminately destroy both the mycobacteria that cause tuberculosis and the beneficial microflora of the intestines and stomach.

From the point of view of common sense, the miracle extract will not be able to selectively destroy only the mycobacteria that cause tuberculosis.

In fact, such an enzyme is an antibiotic, because the action of a number of antibiotics is aimed specifically at splitting the walls of bacteria. Why, then, does cerraza not destroy beneficial lactobacilli or E. coli, which is always present in the digestive tract? How is selectivity maintained and how is the enzyme delivered to the lungs to "treat TB"? Unclear…

Review

“My diagnosis before using the wax moth extract: thrombophlebitis, varicose veins on the left leg, indications for surgery. I used the extract for 2 months, two large knots on the leg disappeared, they stopped excruciating pain at night.

Vladimir, Tver

And the last, though not the most important. It is generally accepted throughout the world that the extract is obtained after drying and grinding the raw material, and then extracting it with alcohol, oil or other substances. If the raw material is poured with alcohol without preparation, the result is a tincture.

At the same time, the sellers and manufacturers of the product insist on the name “extract”, although intact, alcoholized butterfly caterpillars are visible in the bottles themselves.

Extract or is it a wax moth tincture?

This seemingly small inaccuracy indicates that there has never been a serious patented production of wax moth extract, and you can buy it only from home-grown healers.

There is an opinion

There is no denying the possibility that the miraculous properties of wax moth extract were fabricated due to the fact that wax moth itself infests hives in abundance and is a by-product of beekeeping. Instead of throwing out the hated larvae, enterprising beekeepers managed to make money on them.

However, with honey products, this practice is common. Until now, there are no serious studies on the effectiveness of bee bread or royal jelly, and these funds are considered the property of traditional medicine. Nevertheless, thousands of people are treated with them and some even praise them.

Whether the “placebo” effect is to blame here, or whether these products really have beneficial properties that have not yet been studied, it is impossible to say for sure. Be that as it may, when using them it is useful to exercise some caution and be critical of advertising.

What does wax moth extract treat and what effect does it have on the body?

According to manufacturers, wax moth extract (sometimes the word “melonella” after the Latin name of a butterfly can be present in its name) helps to treat the following diseases:

  • tuberculosis
  • bronchial asthma
  • bronchitis
  • pneumonia
  • deterioration after myocardial infarction
  • thrombophlebitis
  • anemia
  • climacteric disorders
  • depression
  • disorders of the endocrine system.

Review

“Tuberculosis was cured for me in the hospital, but bronchial asthma remained, I thought, forever. But then, on the advice of a friend, I began to drink moth extract and in six months my condition improved so that even in the summer I stopped suffocating.

Ivan, Moscow

However, serious studies confirming the effectiveness of the extract in the treatment of these diseases have not been conducted.

In general, the use of wax moth larvae extract is based on its putative antimicrobial activity.

It looks like an extract of moth larvae, or wax moth, on sale. On the plate - the larvae themselves

First of all, the extract from the larvae of the wax moth is considered a remedy for tuberculosis, quite possibly because it was first used when tuberculosis was an extremely common disease.

Approximately with the same efficiency it would be used today for breast augmentation.

In general, the properties of the extract of wax moth larvae are seriously overestimated today, but at the same time, both positive reviews and cases of its successful use are known.

Preparation method

The method of preparation of wax moth extract is quite simple. The collected larvae are placed in any vessel and filled with 40% medical alcohol. After that, the remedy is infused for 1-2 months.

For self-preparation of the extract, you will need several wax moth larvae and alcohol

Ethyl alcohol medical

In the same way, wax moth extract can be prepared at home. Depending on the ratio of the mass of larvae and alcohol, a 10% or 25% preparation is obtained.

Review

“When I bought this remedy, I almost threw up, I thought I would never be able to drink it. In the same place, the larvae directly swim dead! But it tasted like alcohol. The main thing is not to look at the bottle. Breathing became easier, hypertension was gone.

In beekeeping farms, the preparation of wax moth extract begins at the stage of selection of the larvae themselves. It is believed that the caterpillar should be large enough, but not of the last age: the larvae preparing for pupation feed little and almost do not secrete the necessary enzyme.

It is interesting

According to some manufacturers, in order to prepare an extract of the larvae of a large wax moth in the amount of half a liter, it is necessary to completely spoil one whole frame with honey, which is given to the caterpillars to eat. For the price, this is approximately 120-150 rubles.

How to use wax moth extract correctly?

There are no general instructions for the use of wax moth extract in nature, and each manufacturer applies its own recommendations for its use to its product.

As a rule, for the treatment of diseases of internal organs, they usually use 15-20 drops 2-3 times a day, mixing them with 100-150 grams of any other liquid.

It is desirable that the instructions for taking the extract of wax moth larvae be issued by a doctor who prescribes the drug itself. Do not use this remedy without a doctor's prescription.

Review

“The doctor prescribed bee bread for me after a heart attack, but I started to pour out a lot from it. We decided to try the wax moth extract, and it helped. The condition returned to normal, a very good remedy in addition to the usual complex of drugs.

Maria Rudolfovna, Kerch

Before taking wax moth extract, it should be noted that many people are prone to allergies to bee products. Definitely, the drug is contraindicated in children under 14 years of age, pregnant and lactating mothers.

Release forms and trademarks

It is not difficult to buy an extract of wax moth larvae today: it is actively distributed via the Internet and by beekeepers themselves. The price of a 100 ml bottle of wax moth extract is approximately 800 rubles. This price is relevant for the wax moth extract with 20% content of the larvae themselves. A 10% extract costs half the price, but is less common.

Wax moth extract is made in different concentrations by beekeepers themselves

There is no known pharmaceutical company producing this remedy. There is a Melonella company that produces products in beautiful packages, but their products are not checked for compliance with any requirements.

In any case, in order to avoid deception, you should definitely look at the jar itself before buying. It should contain caterpillar-like larvae. Without them, it is quite likely to buy a fake with alcohol alone.

Doctors do not prescribe this remedy, because it is not profitable for them. I would like to know how to use it for diabetes of the 1st degree, with the thyroid gland.

I really drank wax moth tincture, I didn’t really hope, but there is a result! For six months I have not taken drugs for tachycardia. The author, before being clever and revealing that something is unknown to science, should remember that modern scientists do not know much, but this does not mean at all that this unknown is absent in principle.
